Advanced Features
Compare shots side by side with the virtual camera, load saved recordings for progress tracking, and control RingShot remotely.
Virtual Camera (Shot Comparison)
The Virtual Camera feature gives RingShot a second ring buffer. This allows you to view your current shot and your previous shot side by side, from the same camera angle, synchronized to the trigger point.
How It Works
When Double-Buffer Mode is enabled, RingShot keeps two ring buffers in memory. Every time a new shot is triggered, the previous buffer content moves to the second buffer. In playback mode, 4 additional camera entries ("Virtual Camera 1" through "Virtual Camera 4") appear in the viewport camera dropdowns. These virtual cameras show the footage from the second buffer.
Comparing Current vs. Previous Shot
-
Enable Double-Buffer Mode
Open the Virtual Camera Settings panel and check "Enable Double-Buffer Mode".
-
Shoot Two Arrows
The first shot fills the primary buffer. The second shot pushes the first shot into the secondary buffer and fills the primary buffer with the new shot.
-
Assign a Virtual Camera to a Viewport
In playback mode, pick a viewport next to the camera you want to compare. Open its camera dropdown and select the matching "Virtual Camera" (e.g. if you're looking at Camera 2, select "Virtual Camera 2" in the adjacent viewport).
-
Compare Side by Side
The two viewports now show the same camera angle from two different shots, synchronized to the trigger point. You can step through frames and see exactly how your form differs between the two shots.
The two recordings are synchronized based on the trigger point. Because the TriggerPod fires at a consistent moment (arrow impact), the footage from both shots lines up automatically. This is what makes the side-by-side comparison meaningful.
Loading a Saved Recording
Instead of comparing your current shot to the previous one, you can also load a previously saved video into the second ring buffer. This is useful for tracking progress over time, for example comparing a shot from today with one from a few weeks ago.
-
Click "Open" in Virtual Camera Settings
A file dialog opens where you select a previously saved recording.
-
The Video Loads into the Second Buffer
RingShot reads the file and automatically splits it into the individual camera streams using metadata. The virtual cameras now show the loaded footage instead of the previous shot.
-
Compare as Usual
Select a Virtual Camera in a viewport next to the matching real camera. The comparison works the same as with the previous shot.
To unload the file, click the Close button (which replaces the Open button after a file is loaded).
Loading a saved recording only works properly if the recording was made at the same frame rate as your current session. If the frame rates differ, the synchronization will be off.
Playback Offset Sliders
If the synchronization between the two buffers is off (for example because you changed the trigger delay or recording duration since the file was saved), you can adjust it manually using the offset sliders:
| Slider | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Playback Offset Percentual | -0.50 to +0.50 | Coarse adjustment. Shifts the secondary buffer by a percentage of the total buffer length. Use this for large offsets when the recording duration has changed. |
| Playback Offset | -35 to +35 frames | Fine adjustment. Shifts the secondary buffer by individual frames. Use this to sync down to the exact frame after the coarse adjustment. |
Remote Control Settings
RingShot can be controlled remotely over a local network. This allows a coach or second person to trigger recordings, start playback, or adjust settings from a separate device.
Multi-Monitor
For multi-monitor setups, use File → New Camera Window to open an additional RingShot window. Each window has its own freely configurable viewport grid, so you can display different camera angles on separate monitors.
