Trigger System

Connect a trigger device to automate the recording workflow. When a trigger fires, RingShot stops recording, plays back the footage, and returns to recording automatically.

Trigger Devices

RingShot supports two types of trigger devices:

TriggerPod (recommended)

The TriggerPod is a wireless LoRa-based impact sensor that mounts on the target frame. When an arrow hits the target, the sensor detects the vibration and sends a trigger signal to the LoRa USB receiver connected to the RingShot system.

The TriggerPod has a range of up to 100 meters, a multi-year battery life (approximately 100,000 impacts), and is fully weather resistant so it can stay mounted outdoors permanently.

TriggerApp (legacy)

The TriggerApp is an Android app that turns a smartphone into a trigger device. The phone connects to the RingShot system over your local Wi-Fi network. While still supported, the TriggerPod is the recommended option for most setups.

To download the TriggerApp, click Get The App in the Trigger App Settings panel to display a QR code.

How the Workflow Works

  1. Impact Detection

The TriggerPod detects an arrow hitting the target (or the TriggerApp user taps the trigger button on their phone).

  2. Signal Transmission

The trigger signal is sent to RingShot. For the TriggerPod this happens via LoRa radio; for the TriggerApp via Wi-Fi.

  3. Buffer Freeze

RingShot receives the signal, stops ring buffer recording, and freezes the footage for playback.

  4. Automatic Playback

The system plays the footage automatically. If Autoslowdown is enabled, the key section plays in slow motion.

  5. Auto-Reset

After the configured number of replay cycles (see Limit Repeat below), the system returns to recording mode. Ready for the next arrow.

Fully Hands-Free

Once configured, the full cycle (record → trigger → replay → reset) runs without any user interaction. The archer can focus on shooting while the system handles capture automatically.

Trigger App Settings Panel

The Trigger App Settings panel in the sidebar contains all trigger-related controls.

Device List

The device list shows all available trigger devices. Each entry shows the device name, its status ("Ready" or "Connected"), and a Connect/Disconnect button.

A device must be connected before its trigger signals will stop the recording. This allows multiple RingShot systems to operate in the same area without interfering with each other.

Connecting a TriggerPod

The TriggerPod does not broadcast its presence continuously to save battery. It only appears in the device list after it has sent at least one trigger signal. To make it appear:

  1. Make sure the LoRa USB receiver is plugged in
  2. Cause the TriggerPod to trigger once. This usually happens automatically when you handle or move the pod. If the pod is already mounted, tap the target or shoot one arrow.
  3. The device appears in the list as "Pod TR12" followed by an identifier
  4. Click Connect to activate it

Connecting the TriggerApp

The TriggerApp uses network discovery and appears automatically in the device list when both the RingShot system and the Android phone are on the same Wi-Fi network and the app is running.

  1. Open the TriggerApp on your Android device
  2. Make sure both devices are on the same network
  3. The phone appears in the device list with a shortened name and IP suffix
  4. Click Connect to activate it
Auto-Connect

RingShot remembers the last connected device. On the next startup it will reconnect automatically if the device is available. You only need to connect manually the first time.

Trigger Settings

Control Description
Limit Repeat Controls how many times the playback repeats before returning to recording mode. Range: OFF (no replay limit, stays in playback), 1x, 2x, or 3x.
Delay Trigger Adds a delay between receiving the trigger signal and freezing the ring buffer. Range: OFF (immediate) to 5 seconds in 0.25 second steps. Use this if you want to capture more footage after the impact.

Get The App

Click the Get The App button to display a QR code that links to the TriggerApp download page. Scan the code with your Android phone to install the app.

Trigger Latency

There is a small delay between the arrow hitting the target and the trigger signal reaching the system. This is normal and does not cause problems because the ring buffer already contains footage from before the trigger event. The release moment is always captured.

The Delay Trigger slider can be used to extend this delay intentionally if you want to include more post-impact footage in the recording.
